Coming Soon: A New Approach to Protecting Datasets

By Andy Ferris on December 17, 2018

Unstructured data has grown at an annual compounded rate of 25% for the past ten years, and shows no sign of slowing. For most organizations, “data management” for unstructured data has really just meant capacity management, i.e. increase capacity to keep up with data growth. This model worked at moderate scales, but as datasets have increased in size, complexity, and quantity, it has pushed the scales into petabytes of data with billions of files, and overwhelmed budgets. Enterprises are now asking for data management strategies that do more than just provide continuously increasing capacity.

What's the State of Unstructured Data Management in 2018?

By Allison Armstrong on October 23, 2018

We are in the midst of a dramatic shift from the majority of organizations’ data being structured (application data often sitting in relational databases and VMs) to unstructured (data within individual files and objects)...machine-generated unstructured data. So dramatic, in fact, experts estimate that 90% of organizational data is unstructured.

New Feature: Protect Data with Write Once Read Many (WORM) for Backup and Archive

By Christian Smith on November 9, 2017

Businesses are required to keep data for regulatory, compliance, or legal reasons. Despite backup retention policies built into many legacy backup software packages, administrators often have the ability to inadvertently delete or modify data governed by higher-level business requirements, either by changing policy in the backup software or potentially bypassing the backup software and accessing the underlying storage directly.

New Feature: Increase Data Throughput with Network Data Compression

By Catherine Chiang on November 3, 2017

When moving large amounts of data between datacenters and/or public cloud, the amount of bandwidth in the datacenter often exceeds the bandwidth between datacenters, limiting throughput and speed of data movement.

To accommodate this bandwidth imbalance, Igneous recently released a new feature: network data compression, which enables customers using our Remote Service Router to compress data traversing their wide area network (WAN).

What does this mean for customers? Let’s break it down.

New Feature: Cut Costs By Archiving Snapshots to Igneous

By Andy Pernsteiner on October 31, 2017

NAS snapshots revolutionized the data protection industry. Long gone are the days of calling up the backup admin to ask for last night’s copy of the data. In addition, snapshots seemed like a virtually free way to protect data—enterprises could theoretically take as many as they wanted and keep them around for as long as they wanted.

Thoughts from Gartner Symposium 2016

By Steve Pao on October 27, 2016

#GartnerSYMI attended Gartner Symposium the week after our company emerged from stealth. We spent three years focused on R&D and servicing our pre-launch customers, so we wanted to ensure that our focused mission was still resonating with broader discussions happening at the CIO and senior IT executive levels. The good news is that we believe our timing is even better now than it was three years ago when we started!
